George R. Teel

George Robert “Bob” Teel 75, of Chatham, passed away Saturday, March 22, 2025. He was born June 24, 1949, in Olney, IL, son of John William and Rose Ann (Rodgers) Teel. He married the love of his life, Linda Diane Rue on August 22, 1970, and she preceded him in death on December 30, 2012.

Also preceding him in death are his parents; brother, Bill Teel; and brother-in-law, Kenneth Crites.

He is survived by his daughter, Jeni (Jonathan) Sperry of Chatham; son, Bradley (Jennifer) Teel of Chatham; four granddaughters, Kathryn (Bryce) McMillen of Florida, Amelia, Megan and Jessica Sperry of Chatham; one sister, Janice Crites of Olney; and many nieces and nephews.

Bob was a member of Clearlake Church of Christ. He was first and foremost a minister. Along with his ministry he held several other jobs and retired from the State of Illinois, Department of Public Health and previously worked for several years for Illinois Power.

He was a servant at heart and volunteered with multiple organizations including, as a volunteer firefighter, Storm Watcher and volunteered for the Chatham School District. His greatest joys in life were leading people to Christ, loving his family passionately, being Opa to his four granddaughters, and bringing joy to many children as he played Santa for over 25 years.

Visitation: 11:30 am – 1:30 pm, Friday, March 28, 2025 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.

Funeral Service: 1:30 pm Friday, March 28, 2025, at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield, with Rex Crossland officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
