Rebecca Lynn (Lawley) Swisher, 75, passed away on Friday, August 9, 2024, in San Antonio, Texas.
Rebecca was born in Olney, Illinois, on September 25, 1948. She was a living miracle born with two holes in her heart known as tetralogy of fallot, and one of the first children to have it corrected through surgery at age eleven.
After graduating from East Richland High School, Rebecca married her high school sweetheart, Robert L. Swisher, and became a military spouse for the next twenty years. They spent fifty-six years together creating a lifetime of memories through a deep love and commitment to each other before her passing.
Rebecca talked to anyone and everyone wherever she went. She had the gift of gab and a boisterous laugh that was unmistakable. Rebecca enjoyed collecting Precious Moments through the years and they adorned every corner of her house. She especially enjoyed the holidays and decorated her living room every year with her signature Christmas village. Rebecca was a talented cake and candy maker and brought joy to the lives of many through her Becky Cakes and sweet treats. She also worked as an educator at Lackland Elementary School for twenty-three years before retiring.
Rebecca was mother to Stephen (Jennifer) and Michael (Jennifer), and grandmother to Victoria, Jonathan, Julianne, Aaron, Calen, and Rylan. She was room mom, baseball mom, soccer mom, JROTC mom, mentor, supporter, and the biggest fan to her sons and grandchildren.
Rebecca was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Lorene Lawley and sister Susie Short. She is survived by her siblings Barbara Stinett (Charles) and James Lawley (Bonnie), brother-in-law Bob Short (Virginia), and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Rebecca will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Memorial services for Rebecca held at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home on Bandera Road. A committal ceremony took place at Fort Sam Houston, Shelter #3.
