Daniel Hovey - Class Of 1972

Daniel Hovey

Daniel B. Hovey, 67 a lifelong resident of Olney, died on Saturday, June 12, 2021, following a short illness. He was born April 19, 1954 in Olney, IL the son of Cyril Jerome Hovey and Mary Margaret (Sutton). He married Linda (Walston) on September 9, 1995 in Olney, IL, and she survives.

Dan was retired from the City of Olney Parks Department, where he spent decades enjoying his passion for the outdoors and contributing to the town and community he loved. He was an old soul who relished tradition and sought to enjoy the simple things in life, whether that be a motorcycle ride on a sunny day, the simplicity of a flip phone or sitting with his beloved wife, Linda, on their front porch watching the birds and squirrels. He loved deeply and without question: his family, his friends, and his music. He played drums in several regional rock bands and was an avid collector and lover of jazz and classic rock. Young at heart, Dan enjoyed a special connection to his grandkids and great grandkids. He lived to make them laugh, teach them life lessons, and give them love.

Dan will always be loved by his wife of 26 years, Linda Hovey, and their two children, Kelli Loving of Evansville, and David Hosick (Michelle) of Indianapolis; grandchildren Jia Leavell, Jordan Loving, and Rachel and Eli Hosick; and great-grandchildren Zachariah, Miles, and Morgan ; his mother Mary Margaret Sutton of Olney, and four siblings: Christine Simonson of Washington state and Deborah Hocking, Bruce Hovey, and John Hovey, all of Olney; Brother-in-law, John Walston of Davenport, IA.

He was preceded in death by his father, Cyril Hovey.

Cremation Rites will be accorded. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 25, 2021 at Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Olney, with a Visitation beginning one hour prior to service time.
