Girlis Iaun (Bennett)

Girlis L.(Iaun) Bennett, age 93, of Dyer, Indiana, formerly of Hessville, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 26, 2018.  Funeral Services at Memory Lane Mausoleum, Crown Point, IN.

Girlis was born and raised in Olney, IL and moved to the Hessville section of Hammond in 1955. She worked for many years outside the home as a secretary. She was a longtime faithful member of Hammond First Baptist Church. For many years she and her husband were church Greeters, involved in the Soul Winning Ministry and the Best Years Club. They were always serving others whether it was taking a meal or visiting the sick. Girlis was a wonderful cook, her homemade yeast rolls melted in your mouth. Her specialties were macaroni and cheese and chicken and dumplings from scratch, and she was a tremendous baker. She was always lady like in her manner, her speech and very feminine in her dress. Girlis was a talented seamstress and made most of her clothing. She was a Master Gardener and on most days could be found in her garden tending her beautiful flowers. She did needlework, knitting, crocheting, quilting and many arts and

She is survived by two daughters: Cassy (Jerrel) Franklin and Ann (Terry) Duff; grandchildren: Jay (Annette), Joel (Jackie) and Jim Franklin, Mindy (Charlie) Rousey and Mark (Priscilla) Duff;  great grandchildren: Annagail, Autumn and Audrey Rousey, Meghan, Jacob and Michael Duff; Nolan Franklin and a new little Franklin on the way. Four nieces and numerous dear friends.

Girlis is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 72 years, Thomas Samuel Bennett who passed away on February 3, 2015; parents, Clyde and Helen Iaun; one brother, Clyde Iaun.
