Robert E. Harmon

Robert Elsworth Harmon 67, 113 Pineview Dr. died April 19, 1992 at Good Samaritan Hospital.

He graduated from Olney High School and served in the Army during World War II from 1943 to 1946 in Europe and the South Pacific and was involved in the Battle of the Bulge.

He worked at Brown Shoe Factory in Olney, Ill., then worked in the oil fields and was later employed as a bookkeeper at Ford Garage in Sumner, Ill. He was involved in the restaurant and insurance businesses and was recently the manager of a self-storage business in Virginia.

He was a member of the American Legion in Bridgeport, Ill. and the Free Methodist Church. He enjoyed working with ceramics and was an avid sports fan.

He was born September 20, 1924 in Richland County, Ill. to Elzie and Bertha (Goodwin) Harmon.

Surviving are his wife, Martha (Fulk) Harmon, whom he married October 5, 1962; a son, Jack Harmon of Sumner, Ill.; two daughters, Sherry Loudermilk and Patricia Williams, both of Oaktown; two stepdaughters, Barbara Holmes of Portsmouth, Va. and Sharon Smith of Vincennes; two sisters, Dorothy Gill and Opal Archer, both of Olney, Ill.; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

His first wife, Betty (Shank) Harmon, two stepsons and a brother are deceased.

Burial in Memorial Park Cemetery, Vincennes. Military graveside rites conducted by the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Firing Squad.
