Albert R. "Bert" McVaigh, 68, of Calhoun, Illinois, died on Sunday, December 24, 2023 at UofL Health Jewish Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. Bert was born on July 20, 1955 in Lawrence County, Illinois, the son of Eugene and Glenna (Jones) McVaigh. He married Betty (Bracken) on June 27, 1987 in Calhoun, and she survives.

Bert worked for over 50 years as a mechanic at McVaigh Repair Service. He enjoyed working with the public and providing a service that helped people. Bert lived the word of God and was a backup minister at his church, Calhoun Christian Church. Bert was a family man and loved spending time with them. He especially loved being around his granddaughter, Morgan. He enjoyed watching NASCAR racing and football games.

Bert is survived by his wife, Betty McVaigh of Calhoun; daughter, Amelia McPheron and husband Shawn of Calhoun, IL; granddaughter, Morgan McPheron; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Neal McVaigh and Jimmy McVaigh.

A funeral service will be held for Bert at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Olney, with a visitation beginning one hour before service time at the funeral home.

Interment will follow the service at Calhoun Cemetery.

Memorials can be made to the American Heart Association.
