Irene Merle (Schahrer) Dawson, 88, of Carlinville, Illinois passed away on Saturday, September 18, 2021 at Heritage Health in Gillespie. She was born on July 2, 1933 in Olney, IL to Carl and Jelia (Jennings) Schahrer. Irene married Hubert “Nails” Dawson on January 24, 1959 in Carlinville. He preceded her in death on December 20, 2000.

She came to Carlinville in 1958 to work as a bookkeeper at Prairie Farms Dairy. She owned Irene’s Clothesline in Carlinville for many years.

Irene is survived by her daughter, Carol Dawson of Gillespie, son Dan (Christine) Dawson of Renton, WA, grandson Jacob (Ashley) Koniak of Taylorville, great grandchildren Allyson and Madelyn Koniak of Taylorville, and several nieces and nephews and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Dawson, companion Dave Smith, parents, brother Loy Koertge, sister Neva Butcher, and several sisters- in-law and brothers-in-law.

A public gravesite service will be held at Prairie Lawn Cemetery, Carlinville, IL on Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at 1:00 PM.
