Mary Joe Laws (Huber) - Class Of 1950

Mary Joe Laws (Huber)

Mary Joe (Laws) Huber, 89 of Warrenville, IL, formerly of Claremont, IL, passed away at her home of over 50 years on September 13, 2021.

Mary retired after a long career at Bell Laboratories/Lucent. Her door was always open to her coworkers and friends who stopped in for a chat, to seek advice or even a piece of candy that she had in a jar on her desk.

By day, Mary Joe was an avid gardener. By night, she loved to crochet and knit, but her real passion was applique quilting. Throughout her years, 100s of wall hangings and quilts were handmade for her loved ones. Many single blocks have been found set aside as she “wasn’t thrilled with them,” or a new pattern took her fancy. Warrenville residents might also know Mary Joe for her eloquent letter to the editor, or her Monday night City Council meeting citizen comments.

She is survived by daughters, LuAnne (Frank) Baginski, Sue (Mitch) Arens, Liz (Dan) Webb and Mary (Joe) Parrino, and her son, George. She also leaves behind 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and one great-great granddaughter. Also feeling her loss are good friends, Betty and Chris, as well as many treasured nieces and nephews. While raising her 5 children, Mary Joe became the confidant of many of their friends, thus “Mom Huber” will be missed be many.

Mary Joe is preceded in death by her husband, Francis “Whitey”. She is finally reunited with her brother I.G. (Ira George) and her parents, Peany (Ira George) and Ann Laws, whom she missed dearly.

The family is asking that if you were fortunate enough to be on the receiving end of one of her quilts, please bring them to the service on September 25th from 1-6 PM at DuPage Memorial Chapel (951 W. Washington St., West Chicago), or give them to her family.

DuPage Funeral Chapel, West Chicago, IL.
