Carolyn Erna Campbell (Phillips)

Carolyn E. (Campbell) Phillips, 79, formerly of Olney, died June 11, 2011, at Sentara Potomac Hospital in Woodbridge, Va. Graveside services in Spring Grove Cemetery in Mineral, Va.

Ms. Phillips was born February 14, 1932, the daughter of the late Ernest M. and Sibyl (Johnston) Campbell. She was a graduate of Olney Township High School Class of 1950 and Missouri Baptist Hospital School of Nursing.

Before her marriage to George Albert Phillips Jr. of Noble, November 22, 1956, at Naval Chapel in Key West, Fla., she was a nurse at Key West Naval Hospital. She was a homemaker and mother, accomplished in crafts, handwork and gardening and an avid reader. Her naval career moved them from Key West, Fla., to Jacksonville, Fla., to Naples, Italy, and Washington, D.C. Following retirement, the family lived in Bumpass, Va.

Ms. Phillips is survived by a son Scot, of Riverside, Calif.; daughter, Patricia, of Manassas, Va.; daughter, Helen, of Richmond, Va.; sister, Barbara E. Campbell, of Asheville, N.C.; four granddaughters; two great-grandsons; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest M. and Sibyl Campbell; a sister, Cathryn Rogers; half-sister, Jean Geick; and half-brother, James Campbell.
