
Donald W.(Yogi) Bare, age 92 of Olney, passed away on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, Indiana.
Don was the first son, after 6 girls, born to Leonard and Bertha (Schrader) Bare on
September 2, 1932. There was a total of 11 children. He served in the Army and was stationed in Korea toward the end of the Korean Conflict. He lived in Hamond, Indiana and then came back to the Olney area, where he met and then married Carolyn (Black) on April 4, 1958.
Don worked for over 30 years at AMF/Roadmaster as a setup man in the Welding
Department. He enjoyed mechanical work and was always working on lawn mowers,
chain saws, snow blowers, etc. He liked to travel in the summer and usually took some
extended family members along. He was very active in his church, First Assembly of
God. He held numerous positions over his years of attendance. He enjoyed himself in
his later life, changing the letters on the sign off Main Street and helped volunteer at
Good Samaritan of Richland County’s food bank.
Don was a regular at the “important” meetings held at McDonald’s at breakfast and then
again at 2 p.m. He had a good sense of humor and was liked by most everyone. Food
seemed to be involved when it came to his favorite things to do.
Don is survived by: Daughter - Lori Hundley of Olney, Grandson and wife - Matthew and Jamie Hundley of St. Charles, Missouri and Great-Grand puppy - Charlie, also of St. Charles, Missouri. Several nieces and nephews.
Don was preceded in death by his wife Carolyn, Son - Kevin Bare, Grandson -Jonathan Hundley, Parents, Brother - Ronald (Pete) Bare, and all his sisters: Mildred Scott,
Vivian Combs, Maxine Witte, Opal Swinson, Mary Boulb, Betty Swinson, Pat Ginder,
Faye (Sue) Harmon, and Judy Novak.
Visitation for family and friends will be held from 9:30 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at the Meyer Funeral Home in Olney, Illinois. A service to celebrate Don’s life will be held following at 11:00 a.m. A private burial will be held at a later date.
Memorials may be made to the First Assembly of God Church or Good Samaritan of Richland County.
