Robert W. "Bob" Akes, 63 of Olney, IL., passed away Tuesday, September 21, 1999 at Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney.  Services at St. Albans Episcopal Church in Olney. A Christian Wake Service at Summers-Kistler Funeral Home in Olney. Vicar John Wall officiated. Burial in Crest Haven Cemetery, Claremont, IL.

Mr. Akes was born December 25, 1935 in Olney, IL., the son of William J. and Charlotte I. (Glover) Akes. He married Joyce Ann Beal August 25, 1957 in Phoenix, AZ.

He was a teacher at East Richland High School from 1958 to 1967 and also worked at Illinois State University; Illinois Central College; and at Olney Central College from 1971 to 1995.

He was a member of St Albans Episcopal Church, Olney; the Illinois Business Education Association; North Central Business Education Association; National Business Education Association; Past President of JayCees and Olney Civitan Club; Past Scoutmaster of Troop 211 Vigil member Order of the Arrow; Past Post Advisor of Explorer Post 529; BPOE "Elks" Lodge # 926; V.F.W.; American Legion; Petroleum Club; Mr. Akes was a recipient of the annual WVLN/WSEI Community Service award in 1979.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Ann Akes, of Olney, IL.; two sons, Robert Stanley Akes and wife, Lisa, of Evansville, IN., Richard "Jay" Akes and wife Dawn of Vincennes, IN.; two half-sisters, Ruth Evans, of Lyons, IN., Daisy Myers, of Lake City, FL.; one sister-in-law, Lorene Holycross, of Niles, MI.; four grandchildren, Bridget, Emily, Caroline, and Jesse Akes.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, one half-sister, and one infant son.
