Jim Dillman

James A. Dillman of Cocoa Beach,Florida  passed away on October 12, 2021, after a short illness, my father passed away at 88 years of age. Dad was born on December 4, 1932 in Olney, Illinois to Virgil and Lela (Dugan) Dillman.

Somehow Dad managed to graduate from high school without taking a math course. After marrying Mom he joined the Navy. Following his enlistment, he brought his family back to Illinois where he worked (briefly) at a steel mill. After a co-worker's bloody encounter with some of the machinery, Dad decided he was going to enroll in college. With some tutoring and a lot of persistence, he graduated with a degree in Physics. Following graduation, he went to work for General Electric in Pittsfield, Massachusetts and then transferred to Cape Canaveral to work on the Trident Missile Program until retiring at age 58. After becoming bored, frustrated with golf, and completing most of his "honey do list", he and a couple of others started a software company. This was followed by a few other milestones such as a tandem parachute jump in his 60's, obtaining his pilot's license in his 70's, and driving an open-wheel Indy type car in his 80's.

Dad is predeceased by his parents, Virgil and Lela Dillman, his wife of 49 years, Beverly, and his older brother, Ted.

He is survived by his son, Michael, daughter-in-law, Merry Pat (Misiak) Dillman, grandchildren, Rachel (Nik) Schroth and Evan Dillman, and great grandson, Tanner Schroth along with numerous nephews and nieces. In addition, he is survived by his longtime partner, Florence Staton, her daughter Maribeth (Rick) Leaman, and their daughter Lizzie Leaman.

Dad was a wonderful father, father-in-law, husband, grandfather, great grandfather, partner and friend. His wisdom and particularly his sense of humor will be greatly missed by everyone.

There will be a private celebration of life for family members.
