James S. Brooks, 67,  passed away Sunday, April 24, 2012, in Missouri Valley, Iowa.

Mr. Brooks was born September 22, 1944, in Olney, the son of Alva Jr., and Betty (Nix) Brooks. He attended school in Olney and subsequently served in the United States Air Force.

He was owner/operator of Brooks Excavating in Florida and spent many years working offshore on drilling rigs in the Gulf.

Mr. Brooks is survived by two sons, Greg, of Charleston, and Matthew, of North Carolina; one daughter, Kim Wiltsie, of Naples, Fla.; four grandchildren; mother, Betty Brooks, of Paducah, Ky.; brother, John, of Paducah, Ky.; and two sisters, Becky, of Mt. Vernon, and Janet, of Paducah, Ky.

He was preceded in death by his father, Alva L. Brooks Jr.

The remains were cremated.
