
On February 10th, 2025, Dr. James Mac Brown, 80, passed from this earth leaving behind his frailties and illnesses. He was born May 27, 1944, to Robert O. and Kathryn Williamson Brown of Olney, Illinois.
After graduating from East Richland High School, Jim pursued his under graduate studies at Eastern Illinois University. He then graduated from The Illinois College of Optometry in 1967 and moved his small, but growing, family to Madisonville, Kentucky to begin his career.
Jim practiced his profession of optometry for over fifty years, pleased to serve multiple generations of many families in that time. In his later years, he was proud to share an office with his two daughters; Emily, an optometrist, and Kim, a dentist. He was also an avid golfer and past president of Madisonville’s Jaycee Chapter.
Preceded in death by his parents, Jim is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Margaret (Harden) Brown, two daughters, Dr. Emily Taylor and Dr. Kim Hill (Barry), two grandchildren, Dr. Haylee Taylor Bennett (Brooks) and Ches Hill, and his beloved great grandson, Jackson Bennett. All are from Madisonville, Kentucky.
Also surviving are Jim's three siblings, Lynda Wall and Dr. Dan Brown (Trudy) of Olney, Illinois, and Robert G. Brown (Carol) of Maysville, Kentucky.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, February 15, 2025 at First Christian Church of Madisonville with Rev. Kara Foster officiating. Visitation will be from 12:00 P.M. until service time Saturday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Madisonville First Christian Church or the Habitat for Humanity of Hopkins County.
