Judy E. Fritschle (Smith)

Julia (Judy) Elaine Fritschle (Rector) Smith, age 83, passed peacefully at her home on October 16, 2024. She was born on June 29, 1941 to Velma and Gayland Fritschle, joining a brother, Jerry Duane Fritschle.

Judy married George Kenneth Rector in 1962 and had two children, Kara Suzanne and George Kevin Rector. She later married Clarence Earl "Smitty" Smith in 1980, gaining three stepdaughters.

Judy attended ERHS, graduating in 1959 and went on to Eastern Illinois University, obtaining her degree in Library Science. Living in Champaign and teaching in Mohomet, she later moved back to Olney in 1975 and taught at the Middle School, High School, and St. Joseph School.

After retirement, she and Smitty enjoyed traveling on their motorcycle and being a part of Gold Wing Chapter 5.

Many people remember their love dancing -especially at The Fireside, attending car shoes in their Corvette, and enjoying pontoon rides on the lake.

Judy was also on the Library Board, curator at the local museums, and a member of the Homemakers Education Association. She enjoyed helping Smitty with Tiger Pride and the Alumni Association. She will be missed.

Judy is survived by daughter, Kara Rector-Duncan and husband Roger; son, Kevin Rector; stepdaughters, Michelle (Greg) Swanson, Lori (Mark) Allen, and Stacey Smith; Grandson, Ryan Rector; and several nieces & nephews and their families.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, husbands, and two close aunts, Wilma (Connie) Fritschle and Loda (A.J.) Kimmel.
