
Frank Edward Meadows Sr., 81, of Cortland, Illinois, passed away Sunday, June 18, 2023, at Kishwaukee Hospital in DeKalb. He was born February 9, 1942 in Olney, Illinois, the son of Orville and Kathleen (Newton) Meadows Sr. Frank married Joan Kay Hotvedt on November 22, 1965, in Jelico, Tennessee.
Frank owned and operated a limo service, Gizmo’s Collectables in DeKalb and Sycamore and Frank and Tim’s Sport Cards in Sycamore. He was a Army Paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne. He is a retired mechanic operator with Local 150 Operating Engineers, and the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, and working on the Deep Tunnel Construction Project. He also worked for Rafel Electric and Caterpillar. Frank was a huge part of AA, being a sponsor and mentor having 36 years of sobriety. He was once president of ARM (Association of Recovering Motorcyclists) Chapter 44 in West Chicago, IL. Frank loved fishing, poker, riding, fixing up motorcycles, NASCAR and was also a big sports fan.
He is survived by his children, Lenora (Joseph) Gillespie of Yorkville, IL, Frank Meadows Jr. of Lake in the Hills, IL, Verna (Gregory) Tortorello of Sycamore, IL; nine grandchildren, David, Kristen (Kevin), Alexis, Joshua, Krystal (Ross), Kaylynn, Matthew (Melody), Carli and Natalya; four great-grandchildren, Autumn, Ian, Ivy, and Braylinn; sisters, Anna Kay Blain, and Judith Ward; brothers, Richard Meadows and David Meadows; many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan in 2008; his parents, Orville and Kathleen; two brothers, Daniel Albert Meadows and Orville Wright “Bud” Jr. Meadows; sister, Jane Ann Meadows.
Visitation will be from 4pm to 8pm Thursday, June 22, 2023, at Anderson Funeral Home in DeKalb. Interment of cremated remains will be at a later date at Mount Emblem Cemetery in Elmhurst, Illinois.
