Maurice D. “Deleen” Kermicle, age 83 passed away after a lengthy illness on May 7, 2020, at Sunny Hill Nursing Home in Joliet.  Deleen was born November 17, 1936, in Dundas, Illinois to Kelly and Edna Kermicle.

Deleen served in the US Army in Germany (1960-62).  He resided in Olney, IL, and later moved to Kankakee, then to Joliet when he started work at Caterpillar in 1967. He retired from Cat in 1997 after 30 years of service.  He had many friends at Cat who loved calling him by his nickname “Lightnin”.  Deleen was an avid NASCAR race fan and loved taking photos at thresher shows and tractor/farm events, and of his family, granddaughters and great grandsons.  His dogs Tinker, Taz, and Mia were a big part of his family.

Deleen was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Ida Lou Kermicle nee (Clark) in 2005, and by his sister Virginia Moore (brother-in-law Bill survives).

Deleen is also survived by his step-son, Frank Zimmerle (Joanna) of Shorewood, step-daughter Melissa Palmer of Peoria, granddaughters Heather McKittrick (Brian), of Naperville, and Holly Roberts (Joshua) of Tierra Verde, Florida, and great grandsons Drew and Ben McKittrick.  He also leaves beloved niece Arlene Kennedy (Tom), nephews Gary Moore and Scott Moore, and numerous grand nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.

A funeral and memorial service celebrating Deleen’s life will be held in Olney, Illinois at Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home at a time to be determined later.
