Betty Von Almen (Phillips) - Class Of 1946

Betty Virginia (VonAlmen) Phillips, 92, of Olney, died on Saturday, April 11, 2020 at her residence.  Betty was born on February 8, 1928 in Olney, IL, the daughter of Roscoe and Lela (Craig) VonAlmen.  She married Carroll H. “Red” Phillips on June 5, 1948 and he preceded her in death on January 16, 1999.

Betty worked at the shoe factory in Olney during the war, later she worked at The Janet Shop. She enjoyed interior design and decorating her home. Betty was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ and had a very strong faith. She was a mother to many, not only her own children but also the neighborhood kids. Betty was an excellent cook.

Betty is survived by her son, Carroll Phillips, Jr. and wife Teresa of Olney; son, Cary Phillips and wife Terri of Olney; step-granddaughter, Danielle Dal Santo; brothers, Bernard VonAlmen of Bone Gap, IL, Ronald VonAlmen of Olney; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Evelyn Durham; brother, Danny Von Almen; brother-in-law, Bernard Durham; and sister-in-law, Hazel VonAlmen.

Memorials can be made to Church of Christ.

A private family graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, April 15, 2020 at Crest Haven Memorial Park.
