Francis Zerkle

Francis Cecil "Bud" Zerkle, 97, of Dundas, died on Sunday December 6, 2020 at his home. Bud was born on January 16, 1923 in Dundas, Illinois, the son of Louis and Leona (Miller) Zerkle. He married Jean (Anderson) on April 28, 1946 in Dundas, Illinois, and she survives.

Bud grew up on a farm where they plowed with horses and mules. He graduated from Olney High School and following graduation, he served in the US Army during WWII. Bud worked with his brother, Clarence, at Zerkle Garage for many years and retired from there in 1984. Bud and wife, Jean, enjoyed fishing and camping with friends. He also enjoyed following Olney sports and the St. Louis Cardinals on the radio. He was also a member of Saron Church of Grand Prairie. Bud remained sharp as a tack until the very end and will be missed by family and friends.

Bud is survived by his son, Terry (Judy) Zerkle of Olney; daughter, Linda Zerkle of Olney; son, Fred (Theresa "Terre") Zerkle of Dundas, IL; grandchildren, Brock (Brandy) Zerkle, Carson (Mallory) Zerkle, Jodi (Jeremy) Lomax, and Bryce Zerkle; great grandchildren, Petra Zerkle, Raegan Cunningham, Aidan Cunningham, Keegan Cunningham, and Jackson Lomax; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son; brothers, Everette, Harold, and Clarence Zerkle; and sisters, Genevieve Burgener and Louise Myers.

A Graveside Service will be held for Bud at 11:00 AM on Thursday, December 10, 2020 at Dundas Cemetery. Full Military Rites will be performed at the cemetery.
