Sharon Bellinger (Phillips)

Sharon K. (Bellinger) Gillespie Phillips, age 70, of Terre Haute, Indiana, a former Bridgeport resident, died Friday, January 10, 2020 at her daughter’s residence in Terre Haute, Indiana.

She was born March 26, 1949 in Olney, Illinois, the daughter of Leo and Tressie (Shick) Bellinger. She married David Gillespie on May 31, 1969, and he preceded her in death on February 14, 1993.

Sharon was the Executive Director of the Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce for many years.  She previously worked at the Richland Co. Hospital in respiratory therapy.  In later years, she worked for Team Energy and United Health Care.  She was a member of the Sumner Christian Church and Lawrenceville Rotary Club.  She enjoyed playing bingo and watching game shows. Sharon had an infectious smile and personality and made many friends throughout her life. However, Sharon’s favorite activity was spending time with her grandsons and teaching them how to cook.  She loved listening to her son-in-law play his guitar.

Sharon was preceeded in death by her husband; parents; and one brother, Robert Bellinger.

Survivors include her daughter, Peggy Bristow and husband, Roger of Terre Haute, Indiana and two grandchildren, Charlie and Zane Smith. She is also survived by two cousins who were more like sisters, Lucretia Prout of Smyrna, Tennessee and Beverly Pearson of Carmel, Indiana.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, January 15, 2020, 11:00 a.m. CST, at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home.  Visitation will be Tuesday evening 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. CST at the funeral home.  Burial will be in the Gilead Cemetery.

Linda Clow (Horn) (1973)

I am so sorry to hear about the passing of Sharon.  We grew up living in the same neighborhood.  She was always such a sweet and funny person.  We were in the same club (Olney Desk & Derrick Club) together for many years.  Sending prayers for all of you.  R.I.P. Sharon!    Linda (Clow) Horn
