James Spillman

James O. Spillman, 89, of Olney, passed away on Sunday, December 24, 2017 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, IN.  Services at Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home with burial in Haven Hill Cemetery.

James was born on November 9, 1928 in Ottumwa, IA, the son of Wilbert Cecile (Cline) Spillman.  He married Doris Rosemary (Morgan) on July 3, 1949, in Dundas, IL.  She survives him.

James "Jim" worked at Prairie Farms for 49 years as a lab technician. He was a veteran of the US Army during the Korean War. Jim enjoyed gardening and was well known for the best tasting tomatoes. His nickname was "The Tomato Man". Jim was always outside; mowing, washing cars, changing oil, and any activity that took place outside. He took care of his yard and others' as well; he was always helping his family and friends. James took pride in the home that he built with his brother-in-law, Forrest. Jim was a loving husband whose love for his wife grew stronger every day. He had a deep love for his family and took pleasure in playing with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

James is survived by his wife of 68 years, Doris Rosemary Spillman of Olney; daughters, Linda Schultz and husband John of Evansville, IN and Karen Pine and husband Scott of Olney; son, Larry Spillman of Olney; grandchildren, Andrew, Kevin, Robert, Michael, Neil, and Mindy Schultz, Sharon Elsner, Kyle Pine, and Sara Gordon; 18 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, James Oliver Jr.; sister, Vera Lou Goble; and brother, Thomas Spillman.
