Alan Thomas (History 1971-1993)

Alan Thomas, 75, of Olney, Illinois, passed away on Monday, December 19, 2022 at Deaconess Midtown, in Evansville, Indiana. Alan was born May 19, 1947 in Garrett, Indiana, the son of Eugene and Eleanor (Trovinger) Thomas. He married Rebecca "Becky" (Schaeffer) Thomas on June 14, 1969 in Worthington, Ohio, and she preceded him in death on May 27, 2020.

Alan met his wife, Becky, at Vincennes University and both continued their education in Evansville. After graduation Alan started his career as a teacher in the Richland County School District where he taught government and economics for over 20 years. During his time as a teacher he started a business out of his van. That business would then grow to become what is now known as Thomas Factory Outlet, which is now going on its 48th year. His passion in the business was always the auctions, that's what made him go. He enjoyed taking the merchandise on the road, meeting people, and establishing life-long relationships. Aside from his work and business ventures, Alan was also a devoted husband, father and grandfather and was proud of his family. Alan had an incredible life and his family is at peace knowing he is beside his one true love, Becky Thomas.

Alan is survived by his son, Edward Thomas and wife Andrea of Olney; two grandsons, Brody and Jett Thomas; and sister, Carole Baynes of Ellettsville, Indiana.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 27, 2022 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Olney. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at the funeral home with a 30-minute visitation prior to the service, from 9:30 -10:00 AM

Interment will follow the service at Haven Hill Memorial Gardens in Olney.

This news broke my heart! I taught history with Alan for many years at ERHS. He was a great role model and friend. A Very SPECIAL Person!
