Charles Fildes

Dr. Charles Edward Fildes, 81, of Olney died Sunday January 5, 1997 at Richland Memorial Hospital.  Services at Zirkle Funeral Home with Pastor David A. McNabb officiating. Burial in Haven Hill Cemetery.

Fildes was born December 31, 1915 in Olney, the son of Charles A. and Cora (Slichenmyer) Fildes. He married Johnsie Fiock Fildes October 15, 1942 in the chapel of Lindenwood College in St. Charles, Mo.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the American Medical Association and he was a fellow in the American College of Surgery and American Board of Surgery.

He entered the U.S. Army in 1942 and was discharged with the rank of captain in the Military Corps. His tour of duty included France, Germany and Italy, where he served in the 27th Evacuation Hospital Unit. He was employed by the Department of Surgery in the Veterans Administration Hospital in Augusta, Ga., the Department of Surgery in the V.A. Hospital in Poplar Bluff, Mo., the Carbondale Clinic and the Department of Surgery at the V.A. Hospital in Marion, where he served as head of department. He retired in 1979.

He is survived by his wife and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
