Charles Edward Tarpley

Charles Edward Tarpley, 88, of Flora, formerly of Clay City, passed away on Thursday, February 9, 2017 at Clay County Hospital. Funeral services at Kistler-Patterson Funral Home, Clay City, IL with burial at Crest Haven Cemetery east of Olney.

He was born on January 8, 1929 in Richland County, the son of George W. and Nora (Quillen) Tarpley.

Charles "Tarp" managed the Oil Well supply store in Clay City for many years. He was a US Army veteran and fought in the Korean War. Tarp was an avid hunter, fisherman, and enjoyed maintaining a large garden. He had an interest in Native American artifacts and collected arrowheads. In recent years he took pleasure in playing guitar in several local Opry's.

Charles is survived by his wife, Lucille Tarpley of Flora, IL; daughters, Lisa Lynn Sulkin and her husband, Steven, of Vernon Hills, IL; and Linda Otto, of Libertyville, IL; four grandchildren, Maryam (Matt) Allee, Siavash, and Sonia (Robert) Williams, of Hoffman Estates, IL; and Alexis Otto of Libertyville, IL; great grandchild, Sheyda Williams;step-children, Randy Dane, Loretta Dane Jones, Diane Dane McGee, and Tim Dane; step-grandchildren, Ethan, Cheyanne, Melissa, and Jamie; step-great grandchildren Bailey and Adera; siblings, Donald Tarpley, Raymond Tarpley, George Marion Tarpley, Linda Kerber, and Ruthie Thomas, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his first wife; daughter, Lana Lea Tarpley; and brother, Sherman Tarpley.
