William F. von Almen, PhD, 81, passed away Monday, April 19, 2010, at his residence.  Funeral Mass at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home. Interment  in Metairie Cemetery.

Mr. von Almen was the son of the late John R. von Almen and Anna Hudson von Almen. He was born and raised in Olney and was a resident of Southeast Louisiana for 40 years.

He was a long-time employee of Chevron Oil Company and was involved in the scouting movement for 45 years, receiving several awards, including the Silver Beaver and Silver Antelope.

Mr. von Almen was the beloved husband of Elaine Legendre von Almen and the late Mildred Summers von Almen; father of William F. von Almen II, of Md., Thomas von Almen, PhD, Bivin S. von Almen, Maryland, Juli von Almen Hite, and the late Ann Marie von Almen; father-in-law of Mideline von Almen, Sonja von Almen, Michelle von Almen and James Hite; grandfather of Kathryn Quigley, Lauren, Melissa, Margaret and Mark von Almen, Jordon von Almen, Julia Humbert, Dane, Karina and Ryder von Almen, Alecandrea and Abigail von Almen; also survived by two great-grandchildren; brother of Annelle Beaird and the late Reuben von Almen.
