James L. Jones - Class Of 1935

Word was received form the War Department today that Staff Sgt. JAMES L. JONES, who had been reported missing in action from a bombing raid over Germany on July 19, was killed in action on July 19, 1944.

The word was received by his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Ray Jones, 724 West Cherry Street, Olney. He had been stationed with a bomber squadron of the AAF, in England, as a gunner and radio operator. He arrived in England in June.

Before his enlistment in August 1941, Sgt Jones had been employed at the J & J Market and Trail's Shell Station in Olney.

He has three brothers in the service, Cpl. Jack Jones at Camp McCall, Sgt. Jerry Jones in England, and Pvt. Charles Jones at Amarillo, TX, training as a mechanic for B-29 Superfortresses. He is Richland County's 44th Honor Roll Hero of WWII.
