Gerald F. Combs

Gerald Fuson Combs, 98, died Wednesday, November 7, 2018, at The Brethren Home Community in New Oxford, Pennsylvania. Gerald was born February 23, 1920, in Olney, IL, the son of the late Lloyd R. and Ina R. (Fuson) Combs. He was the husband of the late Lily (Ijams) Combs, his wife of more than 60 years.

Gerald received his B.S. in nutrition in 1940 from the University of Illinois before being called to serve in the U.S. Army during WWII. He received his Ph.D. from Cornell University in 1948. Dr. Combs was employed at several universities and government agencies throughout his 50 plus year career. Dr. Comb’s accomplishments and contributions to the study of nutrition are still recognized today, and was quoted as saying, “of the many things that I have done: travel, research, teach and serve, the most important thing of which I am most proud, is clearly family."

He is survived by his four sons, seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Funeral services and burial will be private. Feiser Funeral Home, Inc, New Oxford, in charge of arrangements.
