GLEN HART, POPULAR OLNEY YOUTH, MISSING IN ACTION -  Mrs. Jennie Hart of 405 East Lafayette Street, Olney received a telegram from the War Department Wednesday morning that her son, Private First Class, Glen Hart, was missing in action in the North African area.  Mr. Hart was born January 11, 1915 and passed away September 11, 1943.

No details were given in the message from the War Department, but it was believed that Pfc. Hart was engaged with American forces in the Italian mainland campaign. The last word from him directly stated that he was with American troops in North Africa.

The youth was born and raised in Olney and attended Olney schools He first enlisted in the U.S. Navy but after receiving an honorable discharge from that branch of the service, was inducted into the U.S. Army and had been overseas for some time. His mother is the widow of Howard Hart. He has one brother, Charles Hart of Olney and one sister, Marjorie.

Olney Soldier Reported Killed

Pfc Glen Hart of Olney, reported several months ago to be missing in action in the Mediterranean War Theater, was reported yesterday to have been killed in action.

Mrs. Jennie Hart of Olney, the soldier’s mother, was notified by the War Department on October 13, 1943 that her son was missing in action.

She received a telegram from the War Department yesterday that told her that Private Hart, 28, had been killed in action in the invasion of Salerno on September 11, 1943. Private Hart enlisted in the Navy at the outset of the war. Later he was discharged, then was inducted into the Army in July 1942. He had been in North Africa for several months before being transferred to action in Italy.
