A. Lee Shafer

A. Lee Shafer, 84, of Olney, died Monday, March 1, 2004 at Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney.  Burial in Haven Hill Cemetery, Olney.

Mr. Shafer was born on February 14, 1920 in Claremont, the son of Otto S. and Hattie (Taylor) Shafer. He married Marjorie Lorene Mowrer on April 13, 1941 in Olney.  She preceded him in death on June 19, 1998.

He was a retired assistant superintendent of East Richland School District. He was also an agriculture teacher at East Richland for many years. He was a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church in Olney, where he was a Sunday School teacher for many years. He was a World War II U.S. Army Air Corps veteran from 1941 to 1945 and was a member of American Legion, Kiwanis and Illinois Education Association.

Mr. Shafer is survived by a daughter, Mary Beth Dietrick of Chicago; a son, William Lee Shafer and his wife, Patricia of Mercer Island, Wash.; two grandsons; a step-grandson; and a brother, Robert Neal Shafer and his wife, Laverne, New Braunfels, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and a son-in-law, John Dietrick.
