Cebert Hornback - Class Of 1934

Cebert Russell Hornback, 89, of Olney died Friday July 29, 2005 at Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney.

Services at Stasi-Grove Funeral Home in Olney with Reverend Sue Bailey pastor of Immanuel United Methodist Church in Olney, officiating. Burial in Haven Hill Cemetery in Olney, with full military rites performed by Richland County veterans organizations.

Mr. Hornback was born on August 21, 1915 in Olney, the son of Ed and Maude (Curtis) Hornback. He married Mildred Bauman on July 24, 1937 in Olney. She preceded him in death in 1991.

He owned and operated Hornback's Grocery for many, many years in Olney. He was a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church in Olney and a 50-year member of American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Masons of Olney. He was a World War II veteran who attained the rank of Master Sergeant of the Army Air Corps in his three years and nine months of service to his country. He was a decorated veteran, receiving three Bronze Stars for action in the Luzon, Phillipines and the Air Offensive Japan campaigns.

Mr. Hornback is survived by a daughter; Mary Sue Ness of Lakeside, Calif.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two sons, Ronald and Dennis Ray and a sister Louise Doan.
