Clyde Richard King

Clyde Richard King, 81, of Olney, died Tuesday, August 26, 2008, at Burgin Manor in Olney.  Mr. King was born March 24, 1927, in Olney, the son of Clyde H. and Mina (Stilwell) King. In 1949, he married Evelyn (Gill) King in Olney, and she survives.

In the community, he was active in Rotary Club and the retail committees of the chamber of commerce, and he also served on the board of directors of the Community Bank and Trust.
Mr. King was the youngest of three children, with a sister, Martha (Bundy) and brother, John.
He attended Silver Street Elementary School and Olney Township High School. He received his high-school diploma in 1945 while serving in the U.S. Navy. He enlisted in March 1945 and served until August 1946.

During his naval service, he was aboard the USS Gage troop carrier in the Pacific.
After his naval service, he attended Carthage College before entering the retail-furniture business, now known as King's Furniture Store, in Olney with his father and brother. Later, he and his brother John owned and operated the business together until he retired in 1989.

He loved the outdoors and always enjoyed hunting, fishing and working on his farm. As a young adult, he trusted in Christ as his Savior. Following that, he served the Lord through the years in various roles in his local church.

Mr. King is survived by his wife, Evelyn King; son, Mike King and his wife, Peggy, of Olney; daughter, Diane King, of Olney; daughter, Julie Turnipseed, of Henderson, Ky.; grandchildren, Jason Turnipseed, Eron Turnipseed, Sarah Edwards, Adam King and Anna King; and great-granddaughter, Reese Turnipseed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister and brother.

Burial in Crest Haven Cemetery in rural Claremont with full military rites performed by Olney veterans organizations.
