Howard C. Dutch Summers

Howard Charles "Dutch" Summers, 71, Rt. 6, Olney, died Monday, June 22, 1987, in Welborn Baptist Hospital in Evansville, Ind.. Burial in Moravian Cemetery in West Salem, with graveside military rites by Olney veterans organizations.

Mr. Summers was born Aug. 8, 1915, in Claremont, the son of Mary Beatrice (Bullock) Summers. He married Vernice Elvira Dusch April 2, 1938, in Hickman, Ky. She died Aug. 5, 1982. He then married Beatrice Totten June 28, 1986. She survives.

He was owner and operator of Summers Funeral Home. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Olney.  Memberships include Olney Elks 926, Eagles Lodge, American Legion, Petroleum Club, Moose Lodge, Knights Columbus 4th degree, Illinois Funeral Directors Association and National Funeral Directors Association.  He was also a World War II U.S. Navy veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Beatrice, Olney; a son, Michael Howard Summers, Loveland, Colo.; a stepson, Maj Ragan, Kent, Ohio; a daughter-in-law, Paula Summers, Loveland, Colo.; seven brothers, Dr. Tom F. Summers, Olney, Gilbert Summers, Lawrenceburg, Tenn., Robert "Bob" Summers, Olney, Dr. John Summers, St. Louis, Mo., Eugene Summers, Auburndale, Fla., Paul Summers, Titusville, Fla., and Dale Summers, North Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; two sisters, Geraldine Summers, Olney, and Mildred VonAlmen, New Orleans, La.; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife and a brother.
