Floyd Wayne Debolt - Class Of 1949

Floyd Wayne Debolt

Floyd Wayne Debolt, 87, of Tolono, Illinois  passed away at home on Saturday, Feb. 24, 2018.  He was born on Jan. 9, 1931, to Earl and Mabel (Crouse) Debolt. He grew up in rural Southern Illinois where he met and married Anna Marie Kocher on Veteran's Day, 1954. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Germany. He was a loving father to his four children. He was kind, gentle and caring, rarely raising his voice. He was active in the Boy Scouts and the Knights of Columbus, serving as Grand Knight. He retired after many years with Grand Prairie Cooperative.

Floyd Wayne loved fishing, camping, bluegrass and country music, playing cards and his family, not in that order. He was known to pull out his guitar and play with neighbors and friends as often as possible. He could also be counted on to join a game of Euchre or Hand and Foot when Anna Marie got out the cards. After retirement, he and Anna Marie spent many years traveling to Arizona and Florida as snow birds making friends wherever they went. His skill as a fisherman provided some memorable fish fries. He would man the deep fryer and his grandchildren would compete to see who could eat the most fish.

He is survived by his loving wife; children, Rex Debolt, Judy (Ron) Sandgren, Janis (Bruce) Mueller and Jim (Dorothy) Debolt; grandchildren, David Debolt, Andy Debolt, Katie Gibes Zafiris, Lee Gibes, Ben Gibes, Kelly Mueller Thorson, Nicole Mueller, Brian Debolt and Jessica Debolt; and great-grandchildren, James Debolt, Liam Debolt, Noah Debolt, Evan Debolt, Grayson Debolt, Wesley Zafiris and Owen Thorson. He is also survived by his sister, Jean Debolt Steber. He was also a favorite uncle to many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Roy and Dick Debolt.

Funeral Mass at St. Thomas Catholic Church, Tolono, with the Rev. Fredi Gomeztorres officiating. Burial at St. Patrick Cemetery, Tolono.
