George Lowell Heckler

George L. Heckler, age 88, of Sumner, Illinois passed away on Wednesday, October 30, 2019 at Carle Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney, Illinois. He was born January 10, 1931 in Richland County, Illinois, the son of Fred and Rosa (Inyart) Heckler. He married Ruth Beal on November 10, 1951 and she preceded him in death on January 19, 2016.

George drove a tank truck for Marathon Oil Company for 20 plus years. He also, along with his wife, Ruth, owned and operated Hecklers Furniture Store in Sumner. He was active with the Sign of the Kingdom-West and a volunteer for hospice. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. His memberships included the Central Christian Church in Lawrenceville and the VFW. He enjoyed horses, flowers, and dachshunds.

Preceding him in death were his parents and wife, Ruth.

Survivors include his children, Brenda Heckler of Mattoon, Illinois and Mark Heckler and wife, Kathy, of Godfrey, Illinois; and three grandchildren, Jennifer Reif and husband, Greg, of Glen Carbon, Illinois, Andrea Heckler and husband, Paul, of Paris, France, and Rebekah Heckler of Los Angeles, California.

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, November 2, 2019 at 11:00 AM at the Sivert-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Sumner, Illinois. Visitation will be on Saturday from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Crest Haven Memorial Park, with military rites. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Southeastern Illinois.
