Mary Alice Fehrenbacher, 89, of Mattoon, formerly of Olney, passed away on Friday, August 24, 2018, at Odd Fellow Rebekah in Mattoon.  She was born on June 24, 1929, the daughter of William “Bud” and Mary (Quillen) Peer.  She married John George Fehrenbacher on June 13, 1950 in Olney, IL.  He preceded her in death on May 14, 2016.

Mary worked alongside her husband at Fehrenbacher Insurance for many years, retiring in 1979. Mary enjoyed genealogy and was on the Wendelin History Book Committee where she compiled the information for the Wendelin Holy Cross History. She also took pleasure in quilting but especially enjoyed time with her family.

Mary is survived by her daughters, Susan Haley and husband Jim of Honokaa, HI and Elizabeth Newton and husband Bill of Mattoon, IL; grandchildren, Jamia Jones, Julie Piacenti, Sarah (Jen) Garcia, and Beth Kenner; and four great-grandchildren, Josh, Jeremy, and Jonathan Jones, and Brianne Fehrenbacher; sister, Sandi Kubbs of Champaign, IL; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, grandsons, Benjamin Newton and Troy Andrew Phillips, sisters, Connie Murphy and Juanita Leaf, and brother, Richard Peer.

Memorials can be made to St. Joseph School.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, September 7, 2018 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Olney, with a visitation beginning one hour prior at the church.  Burial will follow in the St. Joseph Cemetery in Olney.
