William R. "Bill" Vail, 80, of Mt. Carmel, died Wednesday August 1, 2007 at his residence.  Burial in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Mr. Vail was born December 23, 1926 in Olney, the son of Bert L. and Amanda F. (Piper) Vail. He married Mildred Marie "Millie" Weiler on April 26, 1952 in Olney. She preceded him in death on April 18, 2001.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of Lions Club, Knights of Columbus and Elks in Mt. Carmel. He was a member of St. Sebastian Church and attended First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ. He owned and operated William R. Vail Insurance Company for many years until his retirement.

Mr. Vail is survived by his daughters, Sue Vail of Evansville, Ind., Janis Roberts and her husband, Barry of Mt. Carmel and Jackie Gillespie of Bridgeport; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Millie; son, John Vail; brother, Bert Vail and sister, Virginia Rasche.
