Vernon Kurtz

Virgil V. (Vernon, Sleepy) Kurtz, 86, of Clay City, passed away Sunday, April 15, 2012 at Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney.  Funeral services in the chapel of Stasi-Grove Funeral Home with Reverend Gary Ryden officiating. Private burial  in Haven Hill Cemetery. Full military rites performed at the graveside by members of Olney American Legion and VFW posts.

Mr. Kurtz was born on August 24, 1925, in Richland County, the son of Leslie and Jane (Ritter) Kurtz.

He was an iron worker for many years. He was also a farmer and worked in the oil fields. He was in the Korean War and belonged to Olney Elks, Eagles and American Legion. He will be sadly missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.

Mr. Kurtz is survived by sons, Mike Kurtz and wife, Sharon, of Olney; Don Kurtz and wife, Melanie, of Olney; Rodger Kurtz and wife, Julie, of Mt. Prospect; Keith Kurtz and wife, Tina, of Mansfield, Texas; daughter, Sharon Conlon and husband, Pat, of Winter Haven, Fla.; and brother, George Kurtz, of Olney; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie and Jane Kurtz; one son, Ronald Lee Kurtz; and brother, James Kurtz.
