Douglas Jones

SFC Douglas W. Jones, Retired, 47, passed away September 12, 2011, at New Hanover Regional Hospital in Wilmington, N.C.  A Celebration of Life service held at his sister’s residence at 1720 Linda Lane, Olney.

Doug was born February 23, 1964, in Olney, the fifth son of Ralph J. and Martha (Taylor) Jones. He married the love of his life, Donna McDevitt, on November 27, 1982. To this marriage were born three daughters, Erin of Shreveport, La., Megan of Wilmington, N.C. and Danielle of Mobile, Ala.

Doug was also blessed by the birth of grandson and Sidekick Nicholas Jones of Wilmington, N.C.

Doug enlisted in the U.S. Army on January 21, 1986, serving our country in Germany, Korea (three tours), Operation Just Cause in Panama, and Kuwait. He served his enlistment at Ft. Benning, Ga., Ft. Campbell, Ky., Ft. Polk, La. and Ft. Hood, T.X. His years at Ft. Benning, Ga., were served as a Drill Instructor. Doug retired from military service February 25, 2009.

Doug is survived by his wife Donna, three daughters and grandson. He is also survived by two brothers, Richard (Ginny) Jones of Ore City, T.X., and Michael (Sharon) Jones, of Claremont; four sisters, Joyce (Tom) Nix, Sandy (Jim) Egleston, Vickie (Chuck) Woods and Regina (Oakie) VanMatre, all of Olney; Father-in-law and Mother-in-law Don and Jane McDevitt of Wilmington, N.C.; brother-in-laws Daniel McDevitt of Louisville, Ky., Jim (Sam Alverson) McDevitt of Avon, Ind., Joe (Theresa) McDevitt of Rocky Point, N.C., and Dennis (Kelly) McDevitt of Brookings, Ore., and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ralph Jr. and Joseph Jones; and one niece.
