Phillip Zimmerly

Philip C. Zimmerly, 83, died Sunday August 13, 2006 in Atlanta, Ga.  Burial in Haven Hill Cemetery in Olney.

Mr. Zimmerly was the oldest son of Aaron H. and Bertha Speicher Zimmerly and the brother of Robert E. Zimmerly, now deceased. He graduated from Olney Township High School in 1941. The family was active in the Evangelical United Brethren Church of Olney. Mr. Zimmerly entered the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1941, and in 1945 he began serving in the United States Army in the Pacific.

He returned to the university and graduated in 1947 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics. In 1948 he graduated from the U of I College of Law and taught several semesters of business law and engineering law before entering private practice in 1949, with offices in champaign and Urbana. He practiced law for more than 40 years throughout the state of Illinois, most recently with the firm Zimmerly, Gadau, Nelin and Otto of Chamaign.

He retired from the practice of law in 1992 and lived in Sarasota, Fla. before moving to Atlanta, Ga. in January of 2006.

Mr. Zimmerly is survived by a son, Philip Norton Zimmerly of Tamarac, Fla.; two daughters, Isabelle Zimmerly Garcia of Mariposa, Calif. and Helen Zimmerly Sacha of Atlanta, Ga.; six grandchildren
