Opal E. Hataway, 80, of Olney, died Monday, December 29, 2003, at Danville Veterans Administration Hospital in Danville.

Mrs. Hataway was born on February 15, 1923, in Richland County, the daughter of Lester and Neva (McCarty) Wingert.

She married William Robert Hataway. He preceded her in death in 1995.

She was a retired ward clerk at Richland Memorial Hospital. She was a member of Olney Free Methodist Church and Eastern Star. She was a U.S. Navy veteran.

Mrs. Hataway is survived by four sons, William Robert Hataway Jr., of Rusk, Texas, and Ed Hataway, John Hataway and Dan Hataway, all of Olney; a brother, Cloyd "Chuck" Wingert and his wife, Marge, of Olney; a sister, Margaret Petty and her husband, Kenneth, of Olney; and two grandchildren, Heath and Wyatt.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a brother, Loren D. "Red" Wingert.
