Harold Dee Varner

Mr. and Mrs. Robert W. Varner of 502 West Butler street have received word that the remains of their son, 21 year old Staff Sgt. Harold D. Varner, are enroute to the United States from a military cemetery at St. Avoid, France.

Harold popularly known as "Cowboy" was born in Richland county on September 17, 1923. He was killed in action while serving in German-occupied France, on March 29, 1945, as a member of Company K, 304th Infantry, United States Army.

He was a former employee of the Olney Daily Mail and enlisted in the service on January 24, 1943.

Besides his parents, he is survived by one brother, Earl Varner of Olney, and four sisters, Mrs. Eva Wilson of Olney, Mrs. Ada Stivers of Albion, Miss Berdenna Varner of Olney and Mrs. Betty Boling of Evansville, IN.

The body is being returned to the Schaub Funeral Home and burial will be in Haven Hill cemetery.
