John G. Coplea, Sr., 77, died Wednesday March 21, 2001 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Indiana.  Funeral services at Johnson Funeral Home in Fairfield with Terry Harnden officiating. Burial in Maple Hill Cemetery in Fairfield.

Mr. Coplea was born on January 23, 1924 in Wayne County, the son of Loy and Agnes (Bourne) Coplea. He had retired as operator of Star Gas Station in Fairfield after many years. He was a World War II veteran.

Mr. Coplea is survived by his wife, Hazel Coplea of Fairfield; two daughters, Cindy Hammack and her husband, Jim of Fairfield and Sandra Lou Coplea of Mobile, Ala.; two sons, John Coplea Jr. and his wife, Sandy of Fairfield and Sammie Lee Coplea and his wife, Donna of Evansville, Ind.; a brother, Roy Coplea of Tyler, Texas; and eleven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
