Marilyn F. Smith, 96, of Claremont, passed away on Thursday, August 2, 2018 at Lawrence County Memorial Hospital.  Marilyn was born on June 27, 1922 in Richland Co., IL, the daughter of William H. and Mabel (Shafer) McCaw.  She married Francis Orville Smith on March 4, 1944 and he preceded her in death on November 2, 1992.

Marilyn was the secretary of the Claremont Grade School for many years. She was also involved in many Claremont community organizations, the Women's Club, taught Sunday School at her church, and volunteered at the local chowders and ice cream socials. Marilyn enjoyed collecting cookbooks and antiquing. She took pride in her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Marilyn is survived by sons, Patrick (Barbara) Smith of Olney; Robert (Lila) Smith of Vincennes, IN; grandchildren, Andrew Smith and wife Lenore of Darien, IL, Tricia Becker and husband Phil of Dane, WI, Douglas Smith and wife Jesse of Olney, Amy Eigenrauch and husband Brian of Carterville, IL, Brandy Pool and husband Philip of Katy, TX, and Suzanne Fehrenbacher and husband Ryan of Magnolia, TX; 12 great grandchildren; and two nieces and two nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, Donald McCaw and sister, Mildred Clifford.

A graveside service held at Crest Haven Cemetery.
