Joy Jennings (Miller) - Class Of 1940

Joy Jennings (Miller)

Joy Jennings Miller Class of 40Joy (Jennings) Miller, 94, of Olney, passed away Tuesday, January 03, 2017 at Burgin Manor in Olney, IL.  Services at Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home with burial at Haven Hill Memorial Garden.

She was born May 3, 1922 in Olney, IL, the daughter of Charles and Gertrude (Slichenmyer) Jennings. She married Glen E. "Bud" Miller on June 14, 1941, in Olney, IL. He preceded her in death on May 12, 2013.

Bud and Joy were married June 14, 1941 (Bud said they always put flags out for their anniversary, actually was Flag Day), being married almost 72 years when Bud passed away in 2013.

Joy is preceded in death by all of her brothers and sisters and one son, Glen (Skip), and her parents.

In early years of marriage, Joy followed Bud to where he was stationed until he was deployed to Europe during WWII. After the war, farming was their chosen lifestyle. Over the years Joy was involved in many areas of interest. Just listing a few: she decorated many wedding cakes, grew and arranged flowers of all kinds, and quilted for years with Bud drawing many of the designs. As a joint interest, Bud and Joy had a huge garden. They loved to fill the car and go to town to give it all away. Aside from, shall we say, normal garden produce there was also some tobacco, cotton and gourds. Some of you may have been a recipient of a decorated gourd. The quilts painted on the side of the barn, various animals at the pond and the lifelike scarecrow waving would get a honk from passing cars. Countless years of 4H leadership where they were instrumental in many young people's lives in the community.

Joy is survived by her son, Mike Miller and Linda of Olney, IL; daughter-in-law, Sally Miller of Amelia Island, FL; grandchildren, Melissa (Rodney) Blank of Olney, Matthew (Rachel Klier) Miller of Olney, Greg (Jessica) Miller of Middleburg, FL; and Jeff (Tracy) Miller of Shorewood, WI; great grandchildren, Langston Blank (stationed in Italy in the Air Force), Reece Blank and Mallory Miller in Olney, Kylie Miller and Casey Miller of Middleburg, FL, and Shaun Miller and Sydney Miller in Shorewood, WI; sisters-in-law, Joan Jennings of Olney and Pauline Grove in Dundas; and many additional relatives, including a special nephew, John Snider and his family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Glen E. "Skip" Miller II, and brothers, Charles Jennings, Jean Jennings, and sisters, June Snider and Lois Wettreau.
