George Newell Barnhart

WASHINGTON -- George "Barney" Barnhart, 70, of 1927 Canterbury Drive died Wednesday, Nov. 25, 1992, at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria.

Born May 31, 1922, in Maxbass, N.D., to James and Floss Newell Barnhart, he married Lois Warren on Aug. 7, 1941, in Troy, Mo. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Jay of Memphis, Tenn.; one daughter, Mrs. Dave (Lesley) Thompson of East Peoria; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. One brother preceded him in death.

He was a United States Air Force Cadet - W W II veteran. He worked in security for 35 years at Caterpillar Inc., retiring in 1978. He was a life member of East Peoria American Legion Post 983 and was an instructor for the American Legion Drum and Bugle Corps. He was a 33rd degree Mason of Masonic Lodge 1143.

Cremation will be accorded, and private entombment of ashes will be in American Mausoleum in Peoria at a later date.
