Norman Gruneisen - Class Of 1939

Norman Gruneisen

Norman Gruneisen, age 30, a veteran of World War II, died Sunday afternoon, May 7, 1950 in the Veterans Hospital in Hines, where he had been a patient for the past few months.

Born March 13, 1920, in Dundas, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Gruneisen, well known and highly respected citizens of Dundas. Norman attended the schools of Dundas and graduated from the Olney High School  where he starred on the school's basketball teams.

He enlisted in the United States Army Air Force in June 1943 and served on foreign soil for 18 months before being discharged honorably in March 1946. (Illinois CPL 383 AAF Air Service G.P. WW II). He  was married to Laurina Rennenger on August 1, 1942 in Los Angeles, Calif. He was a member of the VFW.

Mr. Gruneisen is survived by his wife Laurina; a son, Darryl Lee; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Gruneisen of Dundas; one brother, Harold of Memphis, Michigan; and a sister, Mrs. Alice Marie Wicker of Smith Mills, Kentucky. An infant daughter passed away in February of this year.

Funeral services will be held in the St. Joseph's Catholic church in Olney with the Rev. Fr. Thomas Bruns in charge. Military services under direction of Memorial Post No. 4226, Veterans of Foreign Wars will precede interment in St. Joseph Cemetery.
