Glenn Wilson Swinson

Glenn Wilson Swinson, age 96, was born on November 22, 1920, in Calhoun, IL. the third son of Omer & Bernice Swinson. He passed away Wednesday, October 25, 2017, at the Northern Colorado Medical Center in Greeley, CO.

Glenn graduated from Olney, IL High School in 1939. He married Helen (Taddy) Miller in 1941.

Glenn was employed by the Pure Oil Company until 1943 when he volunteered for the U.S. Army Air Corp. He was discharged from the Air Corp at the end of World War II. He resumed his work with Pure Oil and in 1955 he was transferred to Brush. He continued working for Pure Oil and their successors for 38 years, retiring in 1979 from Unocal.

Glenn was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and was very involved in community affairs. He and his wife delivered Meals & Friendship for many years. He served on the RE-2J school board for eight years and the Colorado Association of School Boards for six years, serving two years as president. He was a member of Bunker Hill Country Club and a Life Member of the American Legion Post #68. He loved all sports, especially anything that his grandchildren were involved in.

Survivors include his 6 children, Mike (Carol), Kathy (Tom) Latham, Tom (Gail), Joe, Nancy (John) Samples, and Jean (Dennis) Bostron, 13 grandchildren, Holly Valentine, Patrick Swinson, Justin Latham, Jennifer Jackson, Jill Ryan, Emily Swinson, Andrew Swinson, Jared Samples, Neil Samples, Julie Beydler, Rebekah Cravens, Conrad Bostron, and Melissa Wagers; and 22 great grandchildren, Dylan and Brennen Valentine, Slade Swinson, Emerson and Jack Latham, Keaton, Mason and Carson Jackson, Leo Ryan, Wyatt and Sadie Samples, Jackson and Emma Samples, Maggee, Ellee, and Marlee Beydler, Grant and Graycee Cravens, Bennett and Ruby Bostron, Liliana and Porter Wagers. He is also survived by one sister in law, Betty Swinson and one brother in law, Dr. James B. Miller.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Taddy; one son, Patrick; 5 brothers and 4 sisters in law, George (Dorothea), Jim (Mildred), Paul, Ray (Roella), and Albert (Alice); and his parents.

A Mass of Christian Burial at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Brush. Inurnment in the Brush Memorial Cemetery.
