Mike Belcher

Michael J. Belcher, 63, of Olney, passed away on Sunday, May 6, 2018 at his residence.  He was born on October 12, 1954 in Sandoval, IL, the son of John and Mary Kay (Ross) Belcher.  He married Candie Jo (Dilley) on September 2, 1978 in Olney. She survives.

Mike worked for the City of Olney for more than 30 years, retiring as the Parks Supervisor. He was the morning DJ of the 'Y'All Come Back Saloon' show on WVLN. Mike was president of the Olney Tennis Club, founding member of the Olney Christmas Lights Display, and was co-coach of the St. Joe Basketball team when they won the State Championship. He also coached Olney High School Tennis. Mike lived for his grandchildren, attending their sporting events and spoiling them rotten.

Mike is survived by his wife of nearly 40 years, Candie Belcher of Olney; son, Dustin Belcher and wife Melissa of Olney; daughter, Ashley Mullins and husband Andrew of Olney; grandchildren, Jordan, Emily, and Kaden Belcher, and Brandyn and Zoey Mullins; sister, Cathy Nalewajka and husband Mike of Normal, IL; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his uncle, George Ross. 

A visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at the Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Olney.  Burial at Haven Hill Memorial Gardens will take place at a later date.  Cremation Rites were accorded.

Dick Landenberger (1957)

 

I am fortunate to have known Mike, primarily through his tennis activities. When making a return trip home, we would either play or talk a good game. Always good to see him. Will be missed!

David Shafer (1969)

Mike was a great City of Olney Parks Director. As a Councilam, I knew I could always gain info from Mike! He was a big part of aquiring Musgrove and the the New City Pool! Doubled his responsibilty with positive energy he brought!  Also player Church Basketball with him. Was a joy to be around!
