Mildred A. Scherer (Lear)

Mrs. Mildred Aileen (Scherer) Lear, 94, of Greenwood, Indiana, passed away peacefully on the afternoon of Sunday, May 26, 2019 at Greenwood Village South. Mildred was born October 29, 1924 in Olney, Illinois, a daughter of the late Joel G. and Althea S. (Fritschle) Scherer.

Mildred was a 1942 graduate of Richland County High School in Olney and then graduated from Indiana Business College. While a student at IBC, she met a young soldier by the name of Donald Lear who would become her husband on August 24, 1945. She worked for Farm Bureau Insurance and then for 22 years successfully owned and operated Baskin-Robbins stores in Indianapolis and Greenwood before retiring in 1993.

Mildred enjoyed bowling, playing Euchre, gardening and going out with her friends. She also had traveled extensively, visiting such places as Australia, New Zealand and Denmark and countless places in the United States as well as going on several cruises. She was also very active in the Center United Methodist Church where she held several positions of leadership over the years.

Mildred is survived by a loving family including her children and their spouses, Susan and Joseph Buscemi, Garry and Kimberly Lear, Nancy and John Rhinesmith and Sandra and Mike Rhoades; 10 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in passing by her husband of 36 years, Donald E. Lear, who passed in 1981; her granddaughter, Amanda Jean Lear as well as a sister, Ada Todd.

Funeral services held at the Center United Methodist Church, Indianapolis. Burial in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
