Connel Reed

Connell M. Reed, age 54, one of Olney's most popular young businessmen passed away suddenly yesterday afternoon, May 28, 1976. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the Richland Memorial Hospital after he collapsed at the Red and White Store on York Street.

Interment with full military honors by the Olney Veteran organizations in Haven Hill Cemetery.

Connell was born February 27, 1922 in Richland County and was the son of John Reed and Opal Davis Reed. Following the death of his mother at an early age he was reared in the home of Cecil and Blanche Jennings.

He was for several years, the bulk distributor for the Union Oil Co. and the Knapp Oil Company. He was a member of the First Methodist Church in Olney but had been attending the Free Methodist Church. He was a member of Olney Lodge #926 B.P.O.E.

Mr. Reed had an interest in veterans affairs after serving his country in World War II. He was a Past Commander of both Richland Post No. 30 of the American Legion and Post No. 4226 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He was married to Mildred Miller on September 10, 1942 in Olney.

He leaves his wife, Mildred and two children; Martin A. Reed and wife, Sandra of Charleston and Mrs. Anthony (Marsha) Rubsam of Olney, and two grandsons.

Other survivors are a step-mother, Mrs. Helen Reed of Lawrenceville and half-brothers and sisters, Paul Reed, Robert Reed, Morris Reed, Mrs. Eleanor Biehl and Donna Fay.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one half brother, foster parents and a foster brother.

Barry Luis Burcham (1964)

I remember him coming by my house todays after getting out of the Army form VN and singing me up for the VFW and Am Leg 42 yrs ago and still a member of both
